We Love You, Laura Jean: YA Romance with Secrets, Family, and Heart

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before starts streaming on Netflix on August 17. The film—whose trailer (above) has accrued more than four million views at the time of this writing—began as a 2015 novel from Jenny Han, which imbues a night-sweat inducing scenario (all your secret crushes find out!) with humor, charm, and swoon-worthy romance. If you haven’t read sequels P.S. I Still Love You and Always and Forever, Lara Jean, get on it.

Since I can’t be the only one playing the trailer on loop and stealing Lara Jean’s elaborate fantasy sequences, here are more novels to tide you over until the movie comes out.

American Panda, by Gloria Chao

Mei’s parents want her to be a doctor and marry a good Taiwanese boy. Too bad she’s a germaphobe with a crush on a Japanese classmate. What will this mean for her relationship with her family, especially when her parents already cut ties with her beloved older brother for dating the wrong woman?

Eliza and Her Monsters, by Francesca Zappia
Eliza has made a name for herself penning a hugely popular Internet comic—and the new boy at school, to whom she has been growing closer, is one of her biggest fanfiction writers. The problem? No one knows she’s the creator.

When Dimple Met Rishi, by Sandya Menon
Dimple has firm plans for this post-graduation summer coding intensive. They involve winning feedback from one of her idols. They don’t involve attempts to woo her into an arranged marriage.
