Book Trailer Thursday: THE STRANGE FASCINATIONS OF NOAH HYPNOTIK

David Arnold’s latest novel, The Strange Fascinations of Noah Hypnotik (Viking, May 2018), follows 16-year-old Noah Oakman as his quirky interests and highly specific observations intensify after he believes he’s been hypnotized.

The live action trailer shows clips of Noah in various settings—at home, at a party, at the pool—all with his eyes closed as the world goes on around him. He appears calm and focused, turned inward as he detects and makes sense of outward realities. Booklist reviewer Jeanne Fredriksen describes the novel in her starred review (which has a cameo in the trailer) as “highly introspective and strangely fascinating…guaranteed to mesmerize readers and leave them altered.” Strange Fascinations is the kind of weird, honest coming-of-age story Arnold is becoming known for, which the trailer—with original music by Arnold to boot—perfectly captures.

Arnold is also the author of Kids of Appetite and the much appraised Mosquitoland.
