Book Trailer Thursday: THE GOLDEN THREAD

From Colin Meloy, a musician best known for his work with indie-folk band The Decemberists, and illustrator Nikki McClure comes The Golden Thread (HarperCollins / Balzer+Bray), a folksy biography of the late, great folk musician and activist Pete Seeger.

Music was the “golden thread” that tied Seeger to his community and work as an activist, and Meloy appropriately employs his own lyrical talent to create a masterful biography-in-verse that emulates Seeger’s ability to tell a story through song. McClure’s illustrations are similarly artistic and approachable, making this book a wonderful introduction to Seeger for younger readers, as well as a welcome reentry for more seasoned fans.

As Kay Weisman writes in her Booklist review“McClure’s distinctive artwork employs black and gold layers of intricately cut paper, depicting scenes from Seeger’s life and linking to his lyrics. Her work resembles woodcuts, complementing the folkloric style of the text.”
