2018 Spoken Word Grammy Nominees Announced, and a Freebie from the Boss

The Recording Academy announced the 2018 Grammy Award nominees yesterday. This year’s Ed Sheeran snub shocked many, but an equal number of people may be surprised to hear that the Grammys honor audiobooks—but they have been recognized in the Spoken Word category since 1959. Often, these works include audiobooks written by celebrities and read by the authors. Previous winners include Presidents Clinton, Obama, and Carter, myriad actors, and authors of novels, memoirs, dramas, and more.

I’ve listed this year’s audiobook nominees below and linked them to their Booklist reviews when available. Listen to a clip from Carrie Fisher’s The Princess Diarist here, and scroll down to listen to experts from finalist Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run.

Astrophysics For People In A Hurry, by Neil Degrasse Tyson, read by the author

Born To Run, by Bruce Springsteen, read by the author

Confessions Of A Serial Songwriter, by Shelly Peiken, read by the author

Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In, by Bernie Sanders, read by Bernie Sanders and Mark Ruffalo

The Princess Diarist, by Carrie Fisher, read by the author
