Book Trailer Thursday: I AM ALFONSO JONES

Tony Medina exposes the devastation of police brutality in his new YA graphic novel, I Am Alfonso Jones. Just when Alfonso seems to have life figured out, a police officer shoots him while he’s out shopping for a new suit. The story then follows Alfonso into the afterlife, where he watches his friends and family fight for justice from above. This fictional story grapples with the very real societal failing of police brutality, and the importance of the Black Lives Matter movement.

As Booklist reviewer Jesse Karp says in his review, “Medina guides readers through the world that contemporary African Americans live in, a world where justice does not seem to exist. . . Not surprisingly, there are no happy endings here. The book ends, but Alfonso’s purgatorial quest for justice does not.”
