This Week on Well Read TV: Viet Thanh Nguyen Talks about THE REFUGEES

This week on Well Read, Pulitzer Prize and Carnegie Award-winning author Viet Thanh Nguyen will be speaking with hosts Elisa Jaffe and Mary Anne Gwinn about his latest novel, The Refugees, released February 7. Nguyen’s second work of fiction following his highly-acclaimed debut, The Sympathizer (2015), and an incisive nonfiction account, Nothing Ever Dies: Vietnam and the Memory of War (2016), The Refugees, the product of a 17-year writing period, introduces a series of “intimate, supple, and heartrending” stories. In the video clip above, Nguyen makes an important distinction between refugees and immigrants while also sharing which short story “almost broke [him] as a writer.”

To watch his full conversation with Jaffe and Gwinn, check your public television affiliate’s schedule and World Channel beginning this Friday, April 7.
