This Week on Well Read TV: Ann Patchett Talks about Commonwealth

This week on Well Read, bestselling author Ann Patchett will be speaking with hosts Elisa Jaffe and Mary Anne Gwinn about her latest novel, Commonwealth (2016), released September 13. Through five decades, two families, and one decisive divorce, Commonwealth—Patchett’s seventh novel—documents the commitment and the quandaries of the Keating and Cousins families while also raising “thorny questions about a novelist’s right to expose family secrets.” In the video clip above, Patchett discusses her own writing process, including “the habit of making everything up in [her] head and holding it all in [her] head.”

To watch her full conversation with Jaffe and Gwinn, check your public television affiliate’s schedule and World Channel beginning this Friday, October 14.
