This Week on Well Read TV: Maria Semple Talks about Today Will Be Different

This week on Well Read, author and screenwriter Maria Semple will be speaking with hosts Elisa Jaffe and Mary Anne Gwinn about her latest novel, Today Will Be Different (2016), publishing today, October 4. A tale of trials and transformation, Today Will Be Different chronicles the course of Eleanor Flood as the little things in her life—poetry lessons, yoga, and the pressures of private school moms—very suddenly give way to something much bigger. In the video clip above, Semple reveals the inspiration behind the novel’s first page, “a kind of . . . incantation of the person I knew I was capable of being.”

To watch her full conversation with Jaffe and Gwinn, check your public television affiliate’s schedule and World Channel beginning this Friday, October 7.
