This Week on Well Read TV: Louise Erdrich Talks about LaRose

This week on Well Read, National Book Award-winning author Louise Erdrich will be speaking with hosts Elisa Jaffe and Mary Anne Gwinn about her latest adult novel, released in May, LaRose (2016). The fifteenth in a long line of North Dakota-based tales, LaRose homes in on the hardship of two Ojibwe families, one “devastating decision,” and centuries of segregation, spirituality, and sacrifice. In the video clip above, Erdrich discusses her development of a particularly crucial character, Maggie, (whom Erdrich herself “loved writing”) and Maggie’s role in the novel’s simmering cycle of “revenge and violence.”

To watch her full conversation with Jaffe and Gwinn, check your public television affiliate’s schedule and World Channel beginning this Friday, June 24th.
