School’s Out for Summer (But Not Forever)

BookendsCindy: Although the last week of school holds the promise of relaxing summer days, it’s not nearly as much fun as the first week. Now’s the time to say goodbye to students with whom we’ve spent years and to retiring teachers who have given so much to our youth. School's Out record by Alice CooperInstead of booktalking our favorite reads, we are rounding up hundreds of overdue items, taking payments for lost and damaged books, and reading shelves to hunt for missing titles. I gave up on year-end inventory years ago, preferring to stay open longer and to do inventory as a collection development project, with weeding and selection in the mix. Still, this is a bittersweet and exhausting week. Bookends will be back next week after we get some sleep. In the meantime, Alice Cooper is queued up on my phone for when the staff sends off the students departing on school buses.  Dobrez out. Mic drop.
