This Week on Well Read: Jim Lynch Talks about Before the Wind

This week on Well Read, author Jim Lynch will be speaking with hosts Terry Tazioli and Mary Anne Gwinn about his fourth and most recent novel, Before the Wind (2016). Released in April, Before the Wind explores the life of “thirtysomething” Josh Johannssen and his disconnected, once sailing-obsessed Seattle family. In an attempt to unite his distant siblings and disheartened parents, Josh enters Swiftsure, a prominent long distance sailing race in the Pacific Northwest. As editor Bill Ott notes in his starred Booklist review, “Lynch writes about the science of sailing and the grandeur of Puget Sound with a Melville-like attention to detail.” In the video clip above, Lynch likens his own childhood boat trips to “an almost . . . mythical passage”

To watch his full conversation with Tazioli and Gwinn, check your public television affiliate’s schedule and World Channel beginning this Friday, May 13th.
