Cindy and Lynn: We’ve been on the road for the past two weeks, giving our “Cindy & Lynn Best Books 2015” presentation, so we haven’t had much time to write blog posts. Last week, we had a very inspiring day at the Kalamazoo Public Library’s Youth Lit Seminar. The keynote speakers were authors Jackie Woodson and Jason Reynolds and the director of the Cooperative Children’s Book Center, Kathleen T. Horning. What an amazing day. We were honored to be on the same program with these talented people. Jason Reynolds moved us deeply with his talk and a powerful reading from his new book, All American Boys. (You’ll be hearing more about that book here soon.) If you live anywhere near Kalamazoo, you should attend this seminar that alternates between children’s and teen literature each November. Yes, there really is a Kalamazoo.
We moved from that to the book fair at Cindy’s school and then on to our state conference this week, Michigan Association for Media in Education #MAME42. We present today and are currently having a Hunger Games battle for the last packet of coffee at 6:30 a.m. Kathy Schrock was the keynote speaker yesterday and author Eliot Schrefer is on the agenda today with a closing presentation by AASL president, Leslie Preddy. We are booktalking two sessions today, one fiction, one nonfiction and graphic novels, and are opposite our friend and fellow blogger, Travis Jonker, author of 100 Scope Notes. He is one of Michigan’s local treasures. So, hello from Bay City, Michigan and we’ll be back full strength next week for our readers . . . unless the coffee thing doesn’t work out well. 😉
