Garth Risk Hallberg’s debut novel City on Fire has been making waves for two years already–ever since Knopf secured its publishing rights in a two-day bidding war in 2013. And if that kind of buzz seems nearly impossible to live up to, well, it’s not: prepub praise has been off the charts, too. In the library world alone, City on Fire is a 2016 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction longlist title and the October LibraryReads “Favorite of Favorites” title. Joanne Wilkinson, in her starred Booklist review, calls the 900-plus-page novel “graceful in execution, hugely entertaining,” and “a literary tour de force.”
So if there ever was a book that “needed” a trailer, it’s probably not this one. Lucky for you, me, and BTT, we have one anyway. Will you pick up City on Fire–all 900 pages of it?
