Book Trailer Thursday: The Marvels

The publication of Brian Selznick’s The Marvels (Scholastic) this September will be a “red-letter literary event.” To boot, Sarah Hunter’s extended review leads me to believe that Selznick’s new illustrated middle-grade novel in the family that includes the much celebrated The Invention of Hugo Cabret and Wonderstruck could even be the best of all three. Selznick takes his groundbreaking illustrated-narrative format to new heights here, she says: “Just as Selznick’s detailed and artfully deliberate illustrations gradually build a moving narrative, so, too, do his carefully wrought words. In unembellished and evocative prose, he slowly shares clues and masterfully misdirects readers’ attentions.”

(For more about how Selznick created the trailer, including pictures of the set it took him a month to build, read the Wall Street Journal story here.)
