Get Ready to See Emma Donoghue’s “Room” on the Big Screen

RoomSo, you read the book and then they made it into a movie. Now all of a sudden everyone’s a fan even though you loved it first? Yeah.

Heads up to the fans of the claustrophobic story Room by Emma Donoghue—you’ll likely find your fan club overrun this fall when the movie comes out. Take a look at the trailer and you’ll see why. Room is the chilling tale of a mother and son held captive in a shed. Five-year-old Jack has only ever known this world, since his mother, Ma, was abducted before he was born. The movie stars Brie Larson as Ma and Jacon Tremblay as Jack. The trailer, both haunting and hopeful, seems to capture much of the dialogue in the book, which is driven by Jack’s internal thoughts.

Room comes to theaters mid-October. Book groups that devoured this one back in 2011 will likely need to plan a field trip and compare the two! Read an interview with the stars excerpted on Vulture.

While readers are on the wait list for this one, suggest other harrowing tales of captivity like Living Dead Girl (2008) by Elizabeth Scott or A Stolen Life: A Memoir (2011) by Jaycee Lee Dugard.
