Book Trailer Thursday: Once in a Great City

In this brief video for his Once in a Great City: A Detroit Story (Simon & Schuster), David Maraniss touches on one particular aspect of Detroit’s history—Motown. The book chronicles 18 months, in the early 1960s, of the author’s hometown. Booklist reviewer Vanessa Bush gave the book a starred review, saying “Maraniss captures Detroit just as it is both thriving and dying, at the peak of its vibrancy and on the verge of its downfall.” Here, we can give the author 90 seconds to speak for himself.
