Get Ready . . . Get Set . . . Get Scheduled for ALA Annual Conference!

Likely StoriesThe #WWDC15 hashtag is trending on social media this week. That’s because the Worldwide Developers Conference is underway at Moscone Center in San Francisco—an event billed as no less than the “epicenter of change” by its host, Apple.

In just a few weeks, librarians, publishers, AC15_Pinterest_165x165and bibliophiles will flood the Moscone Center for our own conference, hashtag #ALAAC15. We may not have Drake, but ALA Annual Conference boasts its own impressive slate of authors and celebrities, from Nick Offerman to Sarah Vowell to Edwidge Danticat. The programming and panels are multitudinous, and the award ceremonies and after-exhibit events are plentiful. All that to say, there’s a lot to do, so let us offer you some suggestions.

Michael L. Printz Program and Reception
Jandy Nelson, the 2015 Michael L. Printz winner for her book I’ll Give You the Sun, will speak about her writing. The honor book authors Jenny Hubbard (And We Stay); Jessie Ann Foley (The Carnival at Bray); Andrew Smith (Grasshopper Jungle); and author Mariko Tamaki, and illustrator Jillian Tamaki (This One Summer) will respond to questions submitted by librarians and local teens, followed by a reception.

Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in KAJheadshotdcropped_resizedFiction and Nonfiction Announcement and Reception
The eagerly anticipated announcement and presentation of ALA’s only single-book awards for adult trade fiction and nonfiction is followed by a chance to mingle at the dessert and drinks reception with literary luminaries. NBA legend and bestselling author Kareem Abdul-Jabbar keynotes the evening.

Multi-Voice “Radio Play” Mystery Drama
Blackstone Audio presents a multi-Voice “Radio-Play” mystery dramatization written by McCavity Award-winning author, Brian Freeman. The narrator role will be performed by Freeman and actor/narrator, Joe Barrett, will play the male roles. The female roles will be shared by Booklist blogger Karen Kleckner Keefe and Booklist editor Rebecca Vnuk.
