mystery-month-2014Dead Clever: A Lily Pascale Mystery by Scarlett Thomas
Fed up with failed auditions and a cheating boyfriend, Lily returns to Devon where she lands a job as a pop culture instructor at the local university. Her students are distraught over the recent murder of one of their classmates and the handsome colleague who offered to show her the ropes has done a runner—just as the police are beginning to focus on faculty. The first in a trilogy, this atmospheric mystery stars a bright, but unfocused heroine with a well-developed family life and a keen taste for excitement.dead

The Booklist review of the third novel, Seaside, declares that “Readers will fall hard for hip, smart, independent Lily, whose tough-girl image belies a huge—and vulnerable—heart. ”  It’s a shame that Thomas stopped at three in this series.
