Vin Scully: play-by-play during earthquake “like he was narrating an audio book”

Just had to share this great quote from the Sporting News’ coverage of an earthquake during a Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Los Angeles Angels exhibition game.

There are many terrific broadcasters across the wide spectrum of college and professional athletics. There are good ones. There are great ones.

And there is Vin Scully.

On Friday night, a 5.1 earthquake shook the greater Los Angeles area. It just so happened that the Los Angeles Dodgers were in the middle of an exhibition game against the Los Angeles Angels.

The 86-year-old icon called the entire thing like he was narrating an audio book.

And if you know me, you’ll know how wide I grinned to see the worlds of  baseball and audiobooks collide. Thanks to Amy Rubinate for the link! Here’s the video with that audiobook-narrator poise:

And if you are also a baseball fan, check out this feel-good story in the Columbus Dispatch about 93-year-old Harold Winters, the usher for my season tickets section at the Columbus Clippers. Five days until opening game 🙂
