Book Trailer Thursday: Year of the Jungle

In the reading world, we’re no strangers to the heart-racing, fictional fear and danger in Suzanne Collins’ dystopic Hunger Games series. But Collins explores fear of a different sort in her autobiographical picture book Year of the Jungle, out just this week. Collins presents her memories of the year her father was deployed to Vietnam, when the author was a first-grader, with “the kind of indelible and heartfelt resonance that is universally understood,” writes Thom Barthelmess in his starred Booklist review.

Watch the conversation between Collins and illustrator James Proimos for insight into the book’s genesis and imagery.
