Take Your Book on Spring Break: A Contest

Cindy: I’m running a new contest at my middle school libraries this month: Take Your Book on Spring Break. Whose book will travel the farthest? Whose will visit the strangest place? Whose will have the most fun at home? An awesome high school librarian, Ginger Sisson, now retired, shared this idea with Lynn and me at least 15 years ago and I’ve had it in a file and usually remembered it at the last minute when I was packing my own books to take on Spring Break! I sent out the publicity yesterday, whipped up some entry forms, and quickly put up a couple of bulletin boards and the teachers are very excited. They are eager to compete as well. Watch for a follow up post in April with some of our winners. Here’s the scoop in case you want to try it too–just don’t take 15 years to get around to it!:

Take a book on Spring Break with you and take a photo of it posed somewhere fun on your trip. If you are not traveling, you are still eligible–be creative with your book here in town. When you return from Spring Break, bring your photo and a completed entry form to the library for a chance to win one of many gift certificates and other prizes. The photos will be posted on the library bulletin board.  Here are the categories:

1.  The book that has traveled the farthest (We need mileage.)

2.  The book that went the highest. (We need elevation—plane rides do not count.)

3.  The book that went to the strangest place. (We decide on strange…)

4.  The book that saw the most people at one time. (Both book and crowd must be in the photo.)

5.  The book that had the best time right here in the West Michigan area.

6.  The book that went to the most places during Spring Break. (We need a photo from each location)

Love. this. But… too late for this year, as Spring Break starts today. Never fear! It’s already in my “next year” file!

This is a great idea!! I don’t think I can get it together before Spring Break. But I’m thinking about doing it for Summer Break.

  3. LOVE this contest idea. Thank you for posting.
