What do you do?
I do marketing for Booklist, Book Links, Booklist Online and manage the Booklist webinar program.
How did you get here?
After graduating with a double-major in French and English—creative writing with a focus in poetry (might as well have been philosophy), I applied to any museum, university, and association with job openings in Chicago. I was lucky enough to land an admin assistant position for ALA Editions/ALA Graphics, and I’ve worked my way up from there.
What are the occupational hazards of working at a review journal?
Paper cuts, severely dry hands, ear-piercing book cart squeals, and perhaps particular to our review journal—risk of high cholesterol.
What’s the first book that made an impression on you?
Never Tease a Weasel. My mom gave me the first edition, and I loved the illustrations and fast-paced rhymes. Come to think of it that might’ve been where my all-too-generous family nickname “Weasel” originated . . . .
What’s the last book you read?
No Dying, No Cheating: I Had A Good Marriage. Then I Tried To Make It Better. Noticed lots of fellow bus riders checking my left ring finger while reading that one.
What do you do when you’re not reading?
Food, music, and cats are pretty integral to my happiness. My liver also kind of takes a beating.
