What is it with the elephants?

Lynn and Cindy: What is it with the elephants this year?  Has anyone noticed how many books about or featuring elephants there are?

So far we’ve seen:

Small as an Elephant by Jennifer Richard Jacobson

Cousins of Clouds:  Elephant Poems by Tracie Vaughn Zimmer

Elephant Talk:  The Surprising Science of Elephant Communication by Ann Downer

The Elephant Scientist by Donna M. Jackson

Masterwork of a Painting Elephant by Michelle Cuevas

Should I Share My Ice Cream by Mo Willems (a new Elephant and Piggie book)

Hmmm.  Well, as we think about it there are a LOT of books about mice this year too 😉

  1. And then there are three more that Bruce Handy reviewed this past Sunday (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/21/books/review/picture-books-about-elephants-by-bruce-handy.html?_r=1&ref=books)”

    Eve Bunting’s Tweak Tweak
Ramona Badescu’s Pomelo Begins to Grow
Lane Smith’s Grandpa Green (which, Handy admits, is not really an elephant book)

    Maybe it’s a Republican thing?
