#JIAM Gary Paulsen, Lisa Scottoline, Francesca Scottoline Serritella on narrating their memoirs

Audiobooks read by the author? I spoke with novelists about their experiences behind the memoir microphone: children’s and young-adult literature icon Gary Paulsen, mystery writer Lisa Scottoline, and Francesca Scottoline Serritella. Scottoline & daughter Serritella teamed up to narrate two memoirs for Macmillan Audio: Why My Third Husband Will Be a Dog and My Nest Isn’t Empty, It Just Has More Closet Space. Paulsen recorded his memoirs My Life in Dog Years and Puppies, Dogs, and Blue Northers for Brilliance Audio. The trio shared some great insights into the reactions of authors reading their own life story – a perfect fit for this month’s Booklist magazine, which features spotlights on both biographies and audiobooks, during the June is Audiobook Month (#JIAM2011) celebration.

You can read the interviews with these dynamic authors in my “Voices in My Head” column titled “My Life, My Words, My Voice.” What an honor to have three authors who love audiobooks as my guests! You’ll always get a link to my VIHM column – and tons of other great stuff for book lovers & librarians –  if you sign up for Booklist’s free eNewsletter Read Alert – or search my Audiobooker blog for past columns.
