Unfortunate Name, Worthy Site

Have you enjoyed Book Movement lately?

Rebecca has noted this website before here on Book Group Buzz, but I just got around to giving it a closer look today. It’s a website that probably ought to be on the radar of book group members, as it includes several useful tools to help select titles, promote discussion, and manage your group. First, based on the selections of hundred of book groups and the rating of books by book group members, Book Movement posts a weekly book group bestseller list which will help you identify the titles that are the hottest choices for groups right now. The list is updated every Monday. Second, they have a “Book Club Planner” tool where you can publicize your next event, create an email list of members, and have online conversations. As part of this planner, they will help to create a reading guide for your upcoming book. They have guides for over 1,000 titles already, and advertise that they will create a guide (based on materials already extant on the web) for titles that aren’t already on their list. The guide includes an introduction to the book, an excerpt, web links, reviews by other Book Movement members, and discussion questions available from publishers or other online sources.

Book Movement gives away copies of some of the book group bestsellers to members every week. The site also highlights recent new book group choices, allows members to keep a list of books that they would like their group to consider in the future, and has some helpful “how-to” advice for group organizers. A bi-monthly newsletter is available to members. Membership is free for those willing to provide email address, name, and zip code.
