Brian Jacques

jacques-sob-smCindy and Lynn: The wonderful author, Brian Jacques, died this last week, Feb. 5th.  It was much too soon and the legions of us who loved his books are saddened.   Jacques left us over 20 books about the furry denizens of Mossflower Wood starting with Redwall published in 1986.  Filled with adventure, humor and captivating personalities, the series has been loved by readers ever since.

Neither of us was ever privileged to meet Jacques but his tales conveyed a charm and a love of life that was infectious.  And, oh–those tantalizing banquets!  We raise our mugs of nut-brown ale in grateful salute to a master storyteller.  Brian Jacques, thank you from readers everywhere.   You are missed!

Our West Ottawa Public Schools middle schoolers were saddened by this news, too, so we got out the largest of the tissue boxes from the Sob-O-Meter display, our map of Redwall Country and all of our Brian Jacques books and built a tribute display. Here are some of our Harbor Lights 6th graders posing with Brian’s legacy…his wonderful stories that will continue to win young readers’ hearts every year.
