An eReader Book Club

“Come Sony.  Come Kindle.  Come Nook.  Come all.”

So announces the flyer from the Des Plaines (IL) Public Library, promoting their new book group.  The title to be discussed is The Help and the discussion will be followed by an exchange of views on ebook readers.  The library has a limited amount of Sony eReaders that may be checked out for the book club.  These eReaders were purchased through the generosity of the library’s Friends group.

And so we move into a new era of book discussions.  Will this idea attract new readers to the discussion experience?  I’m not sure if only folks who have read The Help on an eReader will be welcome at the program — that might be a little difficult to control.  And after you’ve talked about the pros and cons of eReaders once, you probably won’t care to discuss that topic again.  So then, will the next gathering  be just a book discussion, pure and simple, the same as it used to be?  Time will tell.
