Man Booker shortlist announced

The Man Booker Prize shortlist is always eagerly anticipated by some of my book group leaders. This year’s shortlist looks particularly good and we’re all keeping a close eye on Peter Carey. He’s been nominated this year for Parrot and Olivier in America. He’s already won twice, in 1988 for Oscar and Lucinda and in 2001 for True History of the Kelly Gang. Both of those books are excellent choices for groups with a literary bent.

If Carey wins this year, he will be the first author to win the prestigious prize three times.

Other nominees are:

Room by Emma Donoghue

In a Strange Room by Damon Galgut

The Finkler Question by Howard Jacobson

The Long Song by Andrea Levy

C by Tom McCarthy

Place yer bets.
