From the “cool idea” files

I missed it this year, but I won’t next year. The KC Girlfriends Book Club held their third annual retreat yesterday.

This dedicated group of readers organize a luncheon event to celebrate literacy. They invite their own members, all avid readers, and other book group participants to an afternoon of special guest authors for inspiring talks and book discussions. What a great way to promote reading and conversation and support local authors.

KC Girlfriends Book Club is one of Kansas City’s most active groups. They have made a strong commitment to supporting new authors by selecting these titles to discuss, inviting the authors to the book group, and then featuring these authors and titles on their online radio show.

They are equally committed to members’ reading and discussing. On their website is a killer list of rules for members. I will be taking inspiration from them.
