I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to have more heroes in my world. Between money-grubbing CEOs, ruthless dictators, and my son’s dentist (no offense, Dr. Nancy, but visiting your office is no picnic), there are a lot of people out there who are just plain bringing me down.
I guess I’m not the only one who feels this way. Recently I learned about the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes, which “honors outstanding young leaders who have made a significant positive difference to people and our planet.” Know someone who might be a contender? Adults can nominate anyone between the ages of 8 and 18 for the 2009 prize between now and April 30. The winner receives $2,500 and a signed copy of T. A. Barron’s children’s book The Hero’s Trail. (Author Barron also happens to be the award’s founder, and the prize is named after his mom.)
So cheer up, everybody, and get busy with your nomination sheets.
