We Think the Booker Prize Shortlist Authors Are Stars

The Booker Prize shortlist has been announced:

Darkmans, by Nicola Barker (Fourth Estate)

The Gathering, by Anne Enright (Jonathan Cape)

The Reluctant Fundamentalist, by Mohsin Hamid (Hamish Hamilton)

Mister Pip, by Lloyd Jones (John Murray)

On Chesil Beach, by Ian McEwan (Jonathan Cape)

Animal’s People, by Indra Sinha (Simon & Schuster)

Booklist has reviewed four of six–I don’t think the other two are available in the U.S. yet–and starred all four. So I’d have to say we approve of the selections.

The BBC (“McEwan named on Booker shortlist“), reporting the odds from William Hill, shows Lloyd Jones a favorite at 2/1 and Anne Enright and Indra Sinha as 8/1 long shots.
